Jeep JL Radio Upgrade: A complete DIY to the 12.1″ QLED

Hey everyone, I’m so excited to share my latest project with you! I finally got around to upgrading the infotainment system in my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon EcoDiesel. I decided to install a fantastic 12.1″ QLED radio, and I have to say, it has completely changed the feel of the interior. The bigger screen and updated features make a huge difference. The best part? The total install time was only about 30 minutes!

My Step-by-Step Jeep Wrangler JL Radio Install

1. Unboxing and Prepping: First things first, before you touch anything, you have to disconnect the battery. This is a crucial safety step! The kit came with everything I needed—the new head unit, all the wiring harnesses, antennas, a microphone, and the manuals. It’s always a good idea to lay everything out and make sure you’ve got all the pieces before you start.
2. Removing the Factory Radio: This part can feel a little intimidating, but it’s totally manageable. I carefully removed the trim pieces and unscrewed the original radio. Take your time here to avoid scratching anything.
3. Installing the New Head Unit: This is where the magic happens! I installed the new mounting bracket and then started connecting all the wires. I routed the microphone wire up the A-pillar, which was a nice clean way to do it. I also connected the harnesses for the GPS and USB, and then carefully tucked all the wires behind the dash. Once everything was connected, I slid the new head unit into place and secured it.
4. Testing It Out: The moment of truth! I reconnected the battery, and the new radio booted up quickly. I was so impressed with the speed and the crisp display. I checked the pre-installed music, the radio, and played around with the settings for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Everything worked perfectly, and I couldn’t be happier with the result!
